From our Director of Mission & Community: David Gray
This is probably going to highlight my age a bit, but there was a guy back in the 1990’s called ‘Big Kev’ and he was the much-loved face of a range of household cleaning products. When he had wiped everything clean, Kev would turn to the camera and simply say ‘I’m excited’. What more can one say. Iconic Australian advertising at its finest!
Well, having a look around the College right now and I have to conclude, alongside ‘Big Kev’, that I too am excited. I am ‘Big Kevving’ for our upcoming End of Year Festival – a celebration of learning and community. We are into our 5th year of running the festival and it just keeps growing. Bring the family, ensure to ask Nana and Pa along, pop in the camp chair and join us as we come together in community to thank God for all that He has done at BCC this year. More details are below, along with a link to a live landing page.
I am also ‘Big Kevving’ by our students’ response to the recent Secondary School Musical Auditions. Over 95 students put one of our College values in action and courageously put up their hand to step into something hard and ‘live’ audition in front of their teachers and peers. Our musicals play such a crucial role in growing community and memories for our students and staff and this excites me greatly, so much so that I can officially say that I have now watched the High School Musical back catalogue in my spare time. I sure didn’t see that one coming!
And finally, the ‘Big Kev’ excitement continues as the College officially launches ‘expressions of interest’ for the newly created Year 5 and Year 6 Mission and Service Trip for the end of Term 3, 2027. What excites me most about this new initiative is that we are inviting Mum and Dad to join their kids on the mission trip. What a privilege that will be for child and parent to be able to serve and share the love of Christ together. Check out the link here for more details and to express your interest. I look forward to sharing more about our plans for Secondary School as we land our overarching Mission & Service Trip Roadmap in early 2027.
So, in the iconic words of Big Kev’ …’I’m excited!’

Before and after school care
Belmont Christian College partners with Fair Play OOSH to provide before school care for families in our community. For many families, this service can make mornings easier. Students can arrive earlier and start the day in a calm, safe and well-organised environment, helping avoid the morning rush and easing some of the traffic congestion at drop-off. It also gives students a positive and settled start to the day, setting them up well for learning.
Many families may not realise that government rebates are available, which can significantly reduce the cost of care depending on your eligibility.
To learn more about the Fair Play OOSH program at Belmont Christian College and to attend care, families will need to register their child.
New families are encouraged to check it out!

SSA Football – Australian Champion
Congratulations to Year 6 student Xavi Bennett and the NSW team for their performances at the Schools Sports Australia tournament.
The NSW team finished undefeated with five wins and two draws to finish equal champions with South Australia.
Xavi is the first BCC student to be selected at this level in football, and just our fourth Primary student to ever medal at National SSA, following Kyah Moore (Swimming), Victoria Robinson (Swimming and Athletics), and Willow Barry (AFL and Hockey).
Congratulations Xavi!
Steele Ellemans – Lifting His Way onto the National Stage
Congratulations to Steele Ellemans, who delivered an outstanding performance at the recent Battlegrounds competition at Break Through Fitness. Steele’s results on the day (Squat = 235kg, Bench Press = 157.5kg and Deadlift = 250kg, for a combined total of 642.5kg) saw him described by live-stream commentators as “the future of powerlifting in Australia.”
This result has qualified Steele for the Australian Powerlifting Alliance Mega Nationals in Sydney in April 2027, where he will compete against the best lifters in the country. A strong result there could earn him a place in the Australian team for the IPF World Sub-Junior and Junior Classic Powerlifting Championships in Lithuania in September 2027.
At just 17, Steele is already the third-strongest lifter of all time in Australia in his weight class, a remarkable achievement and testament to his dedication and discipline and the support he receives from his coach Jarrod Leonard and the team at Hunter Performance Centre . We are incredibly proud of Steele and wish him every success on the road to Nationals and beyond!
College News
Beginners and Kindergarten Orientation
Our College campus was alive with excitement, bright smiles, and eager footsteps as we welcomed our incoming Beginners and Kindergarten students for their Orientation Days. There is always a beautiful mix of joy, anticipation, and a tiny bit of trepidation when our youngest learners take their very first steps into big school, but it did not take long for the warm, community atmosphere to put everyone at ease.
A true highlight of the experience was watching our year 5 student buddies step into action. Serving as a reassuring hand to hold, a friendly guide around the classroom, and an instant source of encouragement, our buddies brought comfort to our little ones and helped make their first moments at big school feel safe and fun. Inside the classrooms, new students dived straight into engaging hands-on activities, painting, building, and exploring their future learning spaces alongside their new classmates.
It was equally special to partner with our parents and carers, who were treated to an inside look at daily life at our College. We loved seeing so many families linger over recess, sharing a hot drink, chatting with staff, and building new connections with fellow parents. We extend a heartfelt welcome to all our new and continuing families – we are thrilled to partner with you as your children begin this exciting educational journey!
Inspiring Future Leaders: Year 5 Leadership Speeches
Today, our Year 5 students took a significant step in their leadership journey as they delivered their Year 6 leadership speeches in the Hall. Speaking before their peers in Years 3-6, each nominee shared their vision for serving our College community and demonstrated what it means to lead by example.
Anchored in 1 Timothy 4:12 – “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity” – the speeches highlighted the core values that guide our College: Thankfulness, Humility, Compassion, Courage, and Perseverance. It was deeply encouraging to hear our young leaders articulate their commitment to serving others with grace and integrity.
Following the presentations, our Year 4 and Year 5 students carefully considered each candidate’s heart for service before casting their votes. We invite our entire College family to join us in praying for all our Year 5 students as they prepare to step into their roles as Year 6 leaders in the year ahead.
Student Achievement: Layla Reaches Peak Scout & Duke of Edinburgh Milestones
we love celebrating the remarkable achievements of our students beyond the classroom. We are thrilled to highlight Year 11 student Layla for her incredible dedication, leadership, and perseverance through the Scouting movement and the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award scheme.
Layla earned her Australian Scout Award, the Peak Award in Scouts. As part of this major achievement, she planned and led her troop on a challenging 3-day, 42km hike along the iconic Six-Foot Track from Jenolan to Katoomba in the Blue Mountains. Layla handled every aspect of the expedition, from mapping the route, planning menus, and managing gear to completing comprehensive risk assessments and emergency management plans – all executed under remote supervision (with no adults present on her hike)
Building on her Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award completed through our College, Layla seamlessly transferred her program to the Scout Association and recently completed her Silver Award. As part of the award, she volunteered by coaching an under 10s netball team, played netball in 2 teams as her sport, and upcycled 3 benches, learning new skills in furniture restoration and planning an Urban walk, which she completed in October 2026.
Layla is now setting her sights even higher as she works toward her Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award and the King’s Scout Award (the Venturer Scout Peak Award). Congratulations, Layla! Your initiative, resilience, and heart for community service are an inspiration to our entire College family.
