From our Director of Mission & Community, David Gray
By the time you are reading this, we would have already made it to the halfway mark of our Secondary School six show extravaganza, Alice in Wonderland – A New Musical.
Now, I have to admit, when our good Lord was dishing out skills and abilities in the musical sphere, I must have been hanging out in another room or watching the footy, because all things musical, singing and acting freaks me out a bit. So much so, that for many years, I kept my distance. But then I found myself at BCC and that is when my mind was transformed and for the first time ever, I got it. I understood. The lights finally switched on. Musicals are simply the best.
They are like a little microcosm of what a quality Christian education is on about – community, kindness, perseverance, compassion…humility. I could go on, the list is endless. Whichever way you look at it, something special happens when a group of people across all different ages and stages from students, to teachers, to volunteers, to our construction crew, to admin, to alumni, all pull together in one direction and then experience something that is truly unique. I honestly think these are the times that we do our best work as a College and we get this small glimpse of what Christian fellowship and doing life together can really be. Who cares if we forget a line or stumble off a stage or a track doesn’t start on time…that’s not the point…in those moments, we are safe, we are cared for, and our relationships built on trust both looking outwards and upwards to our Lord will get us through.
Musicals matter. See you at the curtain call. You never know….I might even sing along….

Prayer and Praise
BCC Prayer Warriors
We are privileged to be able to run a monthly prayer morning. It’s a treat to pray for new families, students and staff, share some coffee and cake and enjoy great conversation. Everyone is welcome to join us on the first Tuesday of each month from 8:45am – 9:30am to pray alongside parents and local churches. Come for a bit, or come for the whole time.
Please sign-in at the College Office. We meet near the Weathershed in the College Garden. Simply follow the signs.
For more information or to ask for personal prayer, please email prayerwarriors@bcc.nsw.edu.au.
Check out the prayer focus areas and upcoming dates in the image below.
Prayer Points:
- Secondary School Musical – Thank you, Lord, for this week’s Secondary School Musical. We pray for your continued protection over the cast, crew, staff and volunteers. Keep them healthy and energised as they perform and serve. Bless all the behind-the-scenes efforts, and may each performance be filled with confidence and joy. We pray the production would be a blessing to our wider community, bringing joy, connection and celebration to all who attend.
- Praise for sunshine – Thank you, Lord, for the sunshine bringing relief after recent flooding. We pray for those still recovering – may they receive the help and support they need. Strengthen local churches as they continue to serve and care for their communities.
- Facilities and infrastructure – We give thanks for Rhys, Adam and the whole team as they work to restore and care for our College facilities. Grant them wisdom, strength and encouragement as they serve so faithfully and work to repair the damage caused by recent heavy rains.

Term 2 Fundraisers
Dear Parents & Carers,
Uncharacteristically, our College will be hosting two separate fundraisers over the coming week. One is for our annual fundraiser ‘Coins for Compassion’ and the second is an unplanned fundraiser in response to an urgent need for a community in Taree. The details are as follow:
Out of Uniform Day – Notes for the North Coast
Monday, 16 June
Families would be aware of the devastation caused around the State following the recent rain event. Many communities in the Upper Hunter and Mid-North Coast regions were some of the most impacted by flooding and the subsequent damage this flooding caused. One of the schools that our College maintains a close connection with is MidCoast Christian College in Taree. Whilst the College itself is OK and able to operate, a number of families from the MCCC community have suffered significant damage to their homes. Some of these families are not insured and have lost everything.
To lend a helping hand, we are hosting an Out of Uniform Day on Monday 16 June where students are invited to come out of uniform and we are hoping families may be able to contribute to raising funds for these affected families from MidCoast Christian College. We have called it ‘Notes for the North Coast’ because although gold coins would be great, donations in note form will go a bit further to helping their community. Whether it is $5, $10 or even more, all donations will add up to make a tangible difference. The leadership of MCCC will pass on, in full, our donations to the families in greatest need. So please consider if you are able to help and make a donation on Monday, 16 June. (Please note: due to School Photos, our Monday Beginners group will have their out of uniform day on Wednesday, 18 June. Please send students in full school uniform on Monday, 16 June).
Guidelines for Out of Uniform – the students might like to get on board with the theme ‘wet weather’ and wear rain jackets, puffer jackets, gumboots, waterproof clothing. Alternatively, they may come in their choice of out of uniform clothing. Please ensure that they wear enclosed shoes (no crocs, thongs or sandals); no midriff or singlet tops and please avoid items with inappropriate images or slogans.
Out of Uniform Day – Coins for Compassion
Friday, 4 July
As a College, we sponsor six children through Compassion Australia, a Christian international development organisation that supports children living in poverty. We desire that students at Belmont Christian College develop compassion and concern for children living in poverty around the world.
Over the years, we have raised $60,000 for the sponsorship of our children and the work of Compassion. Our College staff sponsors Byron from Uganda, and the student body sponsors Chepkemoi Ruth from Kenya, Dodong from the Philippines, and Petrha, Stevi, and Chanda from West Timor.
This year, we are endeavouring to raise $5,000 to sponsor our children for the next twelve months and provide family gifts for each family. We also aim to raise an additional $5,000 to contribute to Compassion’s ‘unsponsored Children Fund’.
As is our tradition, we will hold a ‘Coins for Compassion’ day on the last day of Term 2.
Our main Secondary activity for the day will be our Connect stalls. We have done this in past years with much success. Each Connect class will be responsible for running a stall, and the Connect stall with the highest profit will enjoy a pizza reward. Students are encouraged to purchase tickets during Week 10 to use at each other’s stalls. The canteen will be closed for the day, but there will be plenty of food available to purchase from each Connect class stall, including a sausage sizzle.
We look forward to working with our students this term and encouraging them to be kind and compassionate toward others.
Yours in His Service

The Secondary School Staff
We apologise for placing the demands of two different fundraisers on families so close together, but we hope you will understand the unique and unexpected nature of supporting the families of the MidCoast Christian College whilst also maintaining our annual Coins for Compassion event. We always want to be a College that is looking to assist those in need where we can. Thank you in advance for giving where you can – it is sincerely appreciated.

Supporting Students’ Vision and Health
Earlier this term, the team from Eyecare Plus Belmont conducted vision screenings for
Year 1 students.
This initiative proved to be highly valuable, with several children referred for further visual
assessment. As vision is responsible for approximately 80% of our learning, identifying
potential visual issues early is crucial for supporting your child’s academic success.
Unfortunately, they were unable to extend this screening to all year groups due to time and
resource limitations. However, Eyecare Plus Belmont has kindly offered comprehensive eye
exams to all other Primary School students.
This is an excellent opportunity to ensure that your child’s vision is not impeding their ability
to learn and thrive.
To schedule an appointment, please contact Eyecare Plus Belmont directly by:
- Calling 4947 0919
- Booking online at eyecareplus.com.au/belmont
Amanda and the team at Eyecare Plus Belmont look forward to welcoming your family to
their practice.
Uniform Shop is now Cashless
Due to a shift in how shoppers spend and the way banks are transacting, Alinta has made
the decision to become a cashless company.
This decision has come due to a number of factors:
- Consumers no longer carrying cash
- Local branches are closing
- Local branches are becoming cashless and making depositing cash difficult
Cash will no longer be accepted in store as of June 1, 2025.

Sport News
Secondary Zone Netball Gala Day
After an initial washout, seven girls’ and boys’ netball teams represented the College with distinction at the annual Zone Netball Gala Day. Throughout the day, all teams demonstrated great sportsmanship, resilience, and perseverance. Despite challenging conditions as the rain set in, they showed remarkable tenacity and pushed through.
Unfortunately, both the Under 15s and Open Girls Division 1 teams were knocked out in the semi-finals, but they gained valuable experience and lessons to take into the CSSA State Gala Day in a fortnight.
The Open Boys division played out quite differently, with Belmont 1 and Belmont 2 facing each other in the Grand Final! Belmont 2 made a strong comeback from a heavy round-game defeat, beating Wyong in the semi-finals. They started the final impressively, jumping out to a two-goal lead against the older and taller Belmont 1 team. However, Belmont 1’s experience and height advantage eventually prevailed, with a final score of 13–8.
Congratulations to all teams for their outstanding representation of the College!
Secondary CSSA State X-Country
Last week 24 students represented the College at the annual CSSA State X Country. Congratulations to the following student for placing in the top 10 and now go on to represent CSSA NSW at the CIS X-Country Championships.
NAME | PLACE | GRADE |
Tobias Burgum | 10th | 12 Years Boys |
Elli Hungerford | 8th | 15 Years Girls |
Bandile Sibanda | 7th | 16 Years Boys |
Outstanding Sporting Representation
Congratulations to Georgia Hofman (pictured far left) and Holly Blowes (pictured far right), who represented NSW CIS this week at the NSW All Schools Under 15s AFL Tournament.
Both girls have been named in the NSW All Schools Team, which will compete at the National All Schools Tournament later this year.

MathsHub will be open every Wednesday at lunchtime in S3, where a Maths teacher will be available to assist students with:
✓ Homework and classwork
✓ Revising tricky concepts
✓ Asking any Maths-related questions
There’s no need to sign up—students can simply drop in whenever they need support. This is a great opportunity for students to strengthen their understanding and build confidence in a supportive learning environment.
