From our Head of Secondary, Mr Alex Cameron
Goals for our supportive school culture
Often parents & carers express the desire for their child to be safe and happy at school, with a desire to address any social and emotion issues that inevitably surface at school, or in settings where College students are socialising out of hours. Schools are increasingly recognising the need to address bullying, resilience, and social skills. Social and emotional learning begins at birth and is first experienced in the family home. Our College is taking further steps this year to create a friendly and supportive culture. Since 1999, the Friendly Schools research team has conducted 23 high quality community-based studies with over 40,000 Australian children and adolescents, their families and school staff. The resource materials aim to help schools to encourage positive social behaviour and reduce bullying behaviour. Along with other similar resources, we’ll be incorporating into our practice some of their recommendations for children and families.
As parents & carers you are the first teachers of your child’s social skills and first providers of emotional support. Social and emotional learning includes self-awareness skills, relationship skills, self-management skills, social decision-making skills, and social awareness skills. Actions we take will include: referral to our school bullying policy, introduction of activities to prevent or reduce bullying, strategies to help students cope with bullying and the development of social skills and resiliency factors.
Our goals are to:
• Provide all students with opportunities to develop and practise getting along with other children through classroom learning activities
• Create a positive social environment within our College which actively discourages bullying including cyber bullying
• Monitor the College grounds and adult supervision ratios to discourage bullying
• Continue to encourage staff, students and parents to treat all College community members with respect, care and compassion
As part of our ongoing support of families, we ask that you check in regularly with your child to discuss these matters, but to also stay up to date with our communications regarding wellbeing. Regular check-ins are an effective way to elicit student voice, gaining feedback and more importantly influencing decision making regarding wellbeing. In the Secondary School, one way to keep track of student wellbeing is to use a simple online tool that takes a minute to access, once a week. All students do a Pulse check-in during Connect, although they can use the tool more often if they wish.
To find out more about Pulse go to:
https://www.linewize.io/solutions/pulse
It is our deep hope that our students and families continue to engage in meaningful conversations around wellbeing, helping to create an even greater and supportive environment at Belmont Christian College.

Prayer and Praise
BCC Prayer Warriors
We are privileged to be able to run a monthly prayer morning. It’s a treat to pray for new families, students and staff, share some coffee and cake and enjoy great conversation. Everyone is welcome to join us on the first Tuesday of each month from 8:45am – 9:30am to pray alongside parents and local churches. Come for a bit, or come for the whole time.
Please sign-in at the College Office. We meet near the Weathershed in the College Garden. Simply follow the signs.
For more information or to ask for personal prayer, please email prayerwarriors@bcc.nsw.edu.au.
Check out the prayer focus areas and upcoming dates in the image below.
Prayer Points:
- Student worship and spiritual growth: Pray for students as they courageously share their testimonies during student worship lunches. May their words be Spirit-led and encouraging to others. Pray for the student worship group to continue growing in depth and number, with more students stepping out in faith to lead, share, and serve.
- College-wide initiatives: Pray for the successful implementation of Pulse, our new mental health check-in system. May it provide clear insight for staff and help us respond with wisdom and care. Pray students will feel safe to share their real emotions, creating a culture of gratitude and openness. Pray for clarity, unity, and God-centred vision as we work to achieve our College’s strategic goals. May we keep Christ at the centre of all decisions and actions.
- College infrastructure: We continue to place our College in God’s hands, asking for his covering and provision. We commit our buildings to God, that recent issues be resolved effectively, and he protects us from further disruptions or damage.

Secondary Camps Survey
The College is undertaking a review of our Secondary Camps to help inform future decision making. Within this review we are seeking feedback from all key stakeholders – students, parents and teachers. Currently, our Secondary Camps cover all grades from Years 7-11, but Years 8-10 are involved in more specific interest-based camps.
We would appreciate it if all parents of Secondary School students, could take a few moments to complete the survey and share your feedback via the link below. The survey is anonymous allowing parents the safety of giving fair and honest feedback. This will be open for parents to complete until Monday, 2 June. We appreciate your support and thank you in advance for your feedback.

Primary Aerobics Teams
Our 5 amazing Aerobics teams had their first competition together recently and had a great day at NEX in Newcastle.
The ‘Super Novas’ won their competition, with ‘Blitz It’ also amongst the medals coming in third.
‘Fearless’ just missed out in fourth, The ‘Honey Bees’ and ‘Sparklers’ finished seventh and eighth respectively.
The teams are now in full preparation for the NSW titles in June.
Well done girls!
Futsal
Our Primary Boys and Girls Futsal teams played recently in the NNSW Championships in Newcastle.
We have some very talented futsal players here at BCC, and that showed with both teams getting out of the pool stages.
Our Boys went down in the quarter-finals, losing their first game for the day after some impressive performances.
The Girls were left heartbroken, after playing so well all day and losing their semi-final in a penalty shootout.
It was a great day and our teams represented us very well. Well done.

Soccer Gala Day
Our College football teams put in a strong showing at the recent tournament in Tamworth. On a cool morning that turned into a beautiful sunny day, all four teams gave their best and represented the College with pride.
The Junior Boys played with great energy and skill, narrowly missing out on a place in the finals. The Senior Boys showed excellent teamwork and determination, finishing a well-earned 3rd overall. Our Senior Girls gave a strong performance, showing real grit and spirit in every match.
The Junior Girls reached the Grand Final and fought hard, but were defeated in a tense penalty shootout. Despite having several goals disallowed for offside, they kept their composure and battled to the very end.
All teams demonstrated outstanding effort, sportsmanship, and teamwork. They were great ambassadors for the College, and we’re proud of how they competed on and off the pitch.
NSW Sports Representation Selections
Congratulations to Georgia Hofman and Holly Blowes for being selected in CIS (Combined Independent Schools) NSW Under 15s AFL Team for the second consecutive year.
Congratulations to Lomani Clarke for being selected in the CSSA (Christian Schools Sports Association) NSW Under 15s Basketball Team.
