From our Deputy Head of Secondary, Brooke Robins
Recently, I had the pleasure of accompanying our College Captains to Sydney for a visit to NSW Parliament House and Government House. The Captains were invited to participate in the NSW Secondary Schools Leadership Program, alongside student leaders from schools across New South Wales.
The Honourable Greg Piper, the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, and the Honourable Ben Franklin, President of the Legislative Council, officially welcomed the students leaders during Question Time at Parliament House. Throughout the day, the students heard from Members of Parliament and spent time in the office of the Member for Swansea, where they had the opportunity to ask questions and learn about the inner workings of Parliament. A highlight of the day was the guided tour of Government House and the opportunity to meet Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC QC, Governor of New South Wales.
During the visit, one Member of Parliament remarked to the student leaders, “It’s not about the title, it’s about doing the work. There needs to be an alignment between what you say and what you do.” This led me to reflect on the example of Jesus. He bore many titles – Son of God, Good Shepherd, Messiah and Saviour to name a few – but those titles would mean little without the work He carried out here on earth. Jesus exemplified perfect alignment between word and action. It is my prayer for our College Captains and Prefect Team that regardless of the positions or titles they may hold in life, they always seek to do the work of the Lord, and that their service would reflect the One they follow. ‘Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.’ 1 Corinthians 15:58
Our Captains represented our College with distinction throughout the day. Their respectful conduct and genuine interactions were even recognised by a member of the public on the train journey home. Our College is well represented by our Captains and Prefect Team as they work in our College to create community and culture through their Christian leadership.

Prayer and Praise
BCC Prayer Warriors
We are privileged to be able to run a monthly prayer morning. It’s a treat to pray for new families, students and staff, share some coffee and cake and enjoy great conversation. Everyone is welcome to join us on the first Tuesday of each month from 8:45am – 9:30am to pray alongside parents and local churches. Come for a bit, or come for the whole time.
Please sign-in at the College Office. We meet near the Weathershed in the College Garden. Simply follow the signs.
For more information or to ask for personal prayer, please email prayerwarriors@bcc.nsw.edu.au.
Check out the prayer focus areas and upcoming dates in the image below.
Prayer Points:
- Holiday Safety – Father, thank you for the blessing of a full and fruitful term. As the school holidays approach, we pray your protection over our students and their families. May this break be filled with rest, safety and refreshment. Guard their travels and time together and bring them back to the College renewed and ready for the term ahead.
- Staff Conference Week – Father, thank you for the gift of our dedicated staff and for the opportunity of Conference Week. We are grateful for the upcoming time to learn, grow, and strengthen our unity as a team. Thank you for the guest speakers who will be sharing with us. May each session be filled with insight and encouragement, and may your wisdom guide all we do as we serve the College community together.
- Coins for Compassion – Father, thank you for the generosity and compassion shown through our recent Coins for Compassion Day. We are so grateful for the students, staff and volunteers who made the day such a success. May the funds raised bring meaningful change and blessing to those in need, and may our community continue to grow in kindness and action.
Prayer for HSC Students
It’s that time of year again when we ask people to volunteer to pray for the 2025 HSC students. Our goal is for each HSC student to have at least one person from the College community committing to pray for them each day from the beginning of Term 3 until when the HSC exams finish on 10 November. We are asking people to commit to praying for two specific HSC students, the names of whom we will provide to you.
Why start specific prayer in Term 3? Well, in Term 3 the HSC gets more real for the students as they have their HSC Trials in August, Major Works (Art and D&T) are due towards the end of August, and Drama and Music performances, along with Language Oral Exams in September. The HSC Exams start on 16 October.
As part of our wider community focus, we also ask that you please pray for the HSC students at Belmont High School. It can be a challenging time for so many young people.
If you are interested in committing to praying for two of our HSC students, please contact us via prayerwarriors@bcc.nsw.edu.au

Chewing gum info for parents/carers
We are blessed with beautiful grounds and wonderful facilities here at Belmont Christian College. As a means of maintaining the current standard and to combat the growing incidences of chewing gum being disposed of inappropriately around the College and in classrooms we have implemented the following for Secondary students:
- If a student is found to be chewing gum on the College grounds, the relevant Stage Leader will be notified.
- The Stage Leader will then place the student on a HOS detention.
- Subsequent chewing of gum by a student will result in a Tuesday Afternoon detention.
Our desire is to encourage good stewardship in caring for our College and value the support of our parents and carers in this endeavour.
Congratulations Wayne!
We are thrilled to celebrate some joyful news within our College community – Wayne is engaged!
Wayne has been a valued and much-loved member of staff at the College for many years. His dedication, servant-heartedness and steady presence have been a blessing to students, staff and families alike. Whether around the grounds, behind the scenes, or occasionally from a stage, Wayne’s faithful contribution has helped shape the heart of our College.
Please join us in congratulating Wayne and his fiancée Sophie on this exciting new chapter.

Paul Kelly Cup
After months of hard training (starting all the way back in Term 1, Week 4!), Belmont Christian College’s Year 5 and 6 AFL teams finally got their moment to shine at the Paul Kelly Cup. With multiple rain delays and reschedules, Mr Robins has definitely earned a few extra grey hairs trying to keep the show on the road.
Come game day, excitement was high and so were the stakes. With a few players falling sick, our combined squads had to tackle the day with only one substitute between them. That didn’t stop them from putting on an absolute show.
The Boy’s Team came out firing, taking down Charlestown 33-0 in the opening match and backing it up with a 21-7 win over Wallsend South and a 16-8 victory against St James Blue. Despite no subs and a lot of running, the boys pressed on and fought through a gritty semi-final, toppling the previously undefeated St Mary’s 27-24. With Bexley and Jarvis sidelined, and still one player short of a full team, the final against Charlestown East was always going to be a tough ask. Enter Miriam M, stepping up to fill in and proving that courage knows no boundaries. The boys fought back from a 12-1 deficit to bring it to 14-8 with a miracle goal from Miriam, and a final behind almost had them snatching an epic upset. While the scoreboard didn’t go our way, the boys showed courage, teamwork and true BCC grit.
The Girl’s Team brought style, sportsmanship and serious skill. With Zoe C and Imani dominating the midfield and slick ball movement all over the ground, the girls notched up commanding wins: 33-6, 55-0, 48-0 and 39-0. But it wasn’t just the scoreboard that impressed, our girls showed grace and leadership, encouraging opposition players and even teaching newcomers the game. It was AFL played the BCC way.
It’s been an absolute joy working with these two teams. From the soggy training days to the sun-drenched final sirens, their passion and perseverance have been inspiring. While the boys’ campaign ends here, we can’t wait to cheer on the girls in the upcoming regional finals. Go BCC!
ACIES (CIS Equivalent) NSW Rugby Representation
Congratulations to Amos Maddison and Elijah Evans for representing ACIES NSW in the Open Rugby Union Team. Amos was Vice Captain and awarded forward of the Team for the Tournament. By all accounts, both boys displayed outstanding commitment and teamwork. Well Done !

Coins for Compassion Day Wrap-Up
What a fantastic way to finish Term 2! Our annual Coins for Compassion Day was full of fun, generosity and community spirit. Students came in MUFTI and took part in the College tradition of creating the longest line of coins – congratulations to 6 Blue for their 197-metre effort! With a sizzling BBQ and creative student-run stalls, it was a joyful and meaningful day. Thank you to Mrs Fryer, Mrs Sanchez and Mrs Potapczyk for leading the event, to Claire from Compassion for joining us, and to our sponsors McKiernen Real Estate and Knight Frank Newcastle. We’re looking forward to sharing the final fundraising total with you soon!
Stage 4 Agriculture Students get hands-on at Phoenix Park Farm
Stage 4 students enjoyed a hands-on excursion to Phoenix Park Farm, learning about sustainable farming, soil health and the impact of recent floods.
Year 8 planted leeks, silverbeet and snow peas for the College garden, while Year 7 cooked delicious farm-fresh dishes. Students explored the realities of farm life, from crop loss to harvesting challenges and shared some of their thoughts:
- “Cooking was the best part!”
- “Digging up potatoes made me feel like a real farmer.”
- “Floods are really bad for plants – they suffocate the soil.”
A big thank you to Mrs de Rooy, Mr Sanchez and Mrs Sanchez for leading the day!
Year 12 History Visit – Sydney Jewish Museum
Last week, our Year 12 Modern History students had the privilege of visiting the Sydney Jewish Museum as part of their study of Conflict in Europe.
The visit provided a deeply moving and memorable experience, including hearing the powerful testimony of a Holocaust survivor. Students also engaged with a range of primary sources from the era, handling original artefacts and asking insightful questions that brought their classroom learning to life.
We are grateful for the opportunity to connect with living history in such a meaningful way.
MathsHub every Wednesday at lunch
We are thrilled to introduce MathsHub, a new initiative that supports Secondary School students in their Mathematics learning.
MathsHub will be open every Wednesday at lunchtime in S3, where a Maths teacher will be available to assist students with:
✓ Homework and classwork
✓ Revising tricky concepts
✓ Asking any Maths-related questions
There’s no need to sign up—students can simply drop in whenever they need support. This is a great opportunity for students to strengthen their understanding and build confidence in a supportive learning environment.
We encourage all Secondary students to take advantage of this valuable resource!
