From our Head of Secondary, Mr Alex Cameron
This week our Year 12 students have commenced the Trial HSC Examinations. This is quite a stressful time for them, giving them an opportunity to test their knowledge and examination skills, within an environment that is commensurate with the HSC.
It is always encouraging to see our community take action during difficult times, and it is a privilege and blessing to have our B-12 students supporting each other. One such example of this which happened this week was the morning tea shared between year 12 students and their Kindy buddies after the first Trial Exam. Year 12 students were greeted upon exit of the Exam by their eagerly awaiting Kindy buddy, armed with a can of drink and a pack of chips. Buddies spent the morning tea break together on the Pleasance, chatting and enjoying the beautiful day and excellent company. It reminds me of the picture painted in Psalm 133, ‘behold how good and pleasant it is for brothers (little brothers and little sisters with their year 12 Buddies) to dwell together in unity’. God’s word reminds us here that we were made with the gift of each other in mind. As God is united (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) so we are designed to share with each other the gift of proximity and a posture of good will. No doubt our respective Buddies (older and younger) will remember and cherish this morning tea for years to come.
Please pray for our Year 12 students as they move into the second week of Trial Exams, that they may be reminded that their worth is not caught up in their achievements, but as image bearers of God they are valuable and belong to a rich community. Also pray that students can complete their coursework in a timely manner and that they may finish well as 13 years of schooling (or more) comes to a close at BCC for them.
Prayer and Praise
BCC Prayer Warriors
We are privileged to be able to run a monthly prayer morning. It’s a treat to pray for new families, students and staff, share some coffee and cake and enjoy great conversation. Everyone is welcome to join us on the first Monday of each month from 8:45am – 9:30am to pray alongside parents and local churches. Come for a bit, or come for the whole time.
Please sign-in at the College Office. We meet near the Weathershed in the College Garden. Simply follow the signs.
For more information or to ask for personal prayer, please email prayerwarriors@bcc.nsw.edu.au.
Check out the prayer focus areas and upcoming dates in the image below.
Prayer Points:
- Year 12 Trial exams: We ask for God’s guidance and wisdom for our Year 12 students as they continue their trial exams. May they use their study time effectively and find confidence in their knowledge and understanding.
- Primary Disco: We pray for this event to foster strong friendships and a sense of community among our primary students, creating wonderful memories and positive experiences. May it be a night filled with joy and free from any harm or incidents.
- Primary Show – Week 7 (12 September): We pray for the smooth logistical planning and organisation of the Primary Show. May all details fall into place seamlessly. We ask for God’s protection over the students and staff during rehearsals and the event, ensuring a safe and successful performance.
- Praise for Year 3 students’ decisions for Christ: We praise God for the nine Year 3 students who made a decision for Christ recently. May their faith continue to grow and flourish.
- Vacant positions – Beginners Aide and College Counsellor/Psychologist: We pray for God’s provision in filling the vacant positions of Beginners Aide and College Counsellor/Psychologist. May the right candidates be found soon.
Prayer for HSC Students
It’s that time of year again when we ask people to volunteer to pray for the 2024 HSC students. Our goal is for each HSC student to have at least one person from the College community committing to pray for them each day from the beginning of Term 3 until when the HSC exams finish on 8 November. We are asking people to commit to praying for two specific HSC students, the names of whom we will provide to you.
Why start specific prayer in Term 3? Well, in Term 3 the HSC gets more real for the students as they have their HSC Trials in August, Major Works (Art and D&T) are due towards the end of August, and Drama and Music performances, along with Language Oral Exams in September. The HSC Exams start on 14 October.
As part of our wider community focus, we also ask that you please pray for the HSC students at Belmont High School. It can be a challenging time for so many young people.
If you are interested in committing to praying for two of our HSC students, please contact us via prayerwarriors@bcc.nsw.edu.au

Championing young people in a digital age
Special event for Parents & Carers
We are looking forward to having a guest speaker, Daniel Principe join us to speak to our students and at an evening for parents. Daniel is a passionate youth advocate and educator. He is no stranger to the complex challenges that our distracted digital world presents in adolescence. Daniel encourages young people to recognise and resist distorted attitudes towards bodies, relationships and sex. His workshop will create spaces for authentic conversations about the challenges youth face, including consent, social media, porn culture, stereotypes, and relationships.
We invite parents/carers to attend his evening session held at Belmont Baptist Church on Wednesday, 28 August at 7.00pm and Belair Baptist Church on Thursday, 29 August at 7.00pm. Parents/carers play a pivotal role in shaping the next generation as they contend with endless digital distractions and harmful online content. Daniel will provide effective tools to help you support your young person to flourish. We as a College are dedicated to your young people and encourage you to attend as we approach their wellbeing needs as a whole community.

Primary Show – ‘Light’
Coming soon!
We are excited to invite families to our upcoming Primary Show, “Light,” on Thursday, 12 September, during Week 7 of Term 3! This year, instead of a traditional musical, our students from Years 3 to 6 will be performing various acts that explore the theme of ‘Light,’ such as “Light of the World” and “My burden is light.”
The event will be held in The Hall, where each year group will present their item, and many students have also prepared individual and small group performances. The enthusiasm and talent displayed by our students have been remarkable, and their hard work has truly embodied the spirit of our theme.
We are incredibly proud of their dedication and creativity and look forward to celebrating their achievements with you. Thank you for your ongoing support and encouragement.
Thank you to our sponsors
This is one of many wonderful sponsorship opportunities where we encourage our families to support the College and build our community through event sponsorship. What a great way to support our young ones while getting your brand in front of our whole community. Thanks to our Major Sponsor for the night Knight Frank Newcastle along with our sponsors Burgan Lawyers, Well Education and Freedom Living Australia.
HSC Showcase
Join us to celebrate the incredible work of our HSC students

These projects represent the culmination of twelve months of dedicated work, reflecting the students’ commitment to excellence in independently creating these impressive works and application of their skills across a variety of mediums. We would like to celebrate their accomplishments with our wider BCC community and invite you all to this free event that is sure to inspire and entertain.

Year 9 & 10 Drama Attend Musical
Year 9 and 10 Drama and Music students recently had the exciting opportunity to attend the musical Sister Act, where they experienced the thrill of a professional stage production first hand. The students were captivated by the amazing staging, which seamlessly transported them into the world of the show, while the dynamic lighting added depth and emotion to every scene. The powerful singing performances and band accompaniment left a lasting impression, showcasing the talent and dedication required to bring such a large-scale production to life. This experience provided valuable insights and generated lots of discussion around the intricate elements that contribute to building a successful stage performance, inspiring our budding performers to dream big.

CSSA State Netball Gala Day
‘Can you smell that? I smell smoke, because we are on fire’ – Grace Topliss.
On Thursday 8th August, our Primary netball teams travelled down to Penrith to play in the annual CSSA State Netball Gala Day.
The girls had a huge day, played with kindness, grace and integrity and a serious amount of skill and determination. After 6 straight games, both teams were into the quarter finals. Both junior and senior girls played rivals Maitland Christian College. They played exceptionally well and won making it through to the semi-finals! Senior girls played Covenant Christian College, Junior girls played Richard Johnston Anglican College and again, after an amazing effort, they won those games as well.
They were unstoppable. With a 5 minute break, both teams were back on the court ready to play their grand final, and at this point, the senior team was undefeated.
The Juniors played Covenant Christian College in the grand final and after a huge day, with little energy left, they played an amazing game but lost 6-2.
The Seniors played Nowra Christian College in their grand final, and again, absolutely exhausted yet used every ounce of energy left and won their game 11-2!
An awesome day. The girls played so well and represented our college beautifully.
Hunter Zone Athletics
For the third consecutive year, Belmont Christian College are Primary Zone Athletics Champions. Our College finished more than 120 points clear of second place at the carnival, with many fine performances from our students, including two very old broken records.
Darcy Gray broke the Junior Boys Discus record with a throw of 26.98m, incredibly breaking a 28 year old record (1996!) by 50cm. It’s amazing to think that the boy that set that record back then, is now 38 years old!
Our Junior Girls relay team ran a 1:04.25, taking nearly half a second off the previous record that was set way back in 2005!
Well done to our team of 49 students who represented us so well, displaying sportsmanship and perseverance throughout the day.
27 students have qualified for the NSW CSSA Carnival which is being held this week.
Congratulations to the following Age Champion medallists:
Skye Porter | 10yr Girls | Age Champion |
