From our Principal, Ms Sharon Sopher
Having lived my whole life in a society where school children wear uniforms, it’s hard to imagine a completely different appearance framework. Students routinely ask why they must wear uniforms, or at least the uniform designed by the College. They are usually enthusiastic adopters of peer-influenced conformity, just more reluctant to wear what the College decides.
Considering our current focus on helping our students wear their uniform well, I thought I would write about why we are going to the trouble.
It is a mistake to say that uniforms are about being a ‘Christian’ school, although there are Christian principles in how we present ourselves. Nor is it fundamentally about learning, although there’s good evidence that anxiety around fashion is detrimental to learning. Primarily it is about a sense of belonging to and identifying with a community. It is about being part of a team of which our uniform is a symbol of that unity. Of course, there are a myriad of other symbols, and the symbols themselves are not the substance of belonging. However, when students decide that their expression of individuality is greater than the importance of belonging, it makes a statement of not wanting to be part of the community.
We love our College and want to take every opportunity to celebrate who we are as a community. We want students to take pride in every symbol that declares our unity. For that reason, we expect students to come to school in the correct uniform every day. Parents and Carers play a crucial role in guiding their children to prioritise belonging to something bigger over their understandable desire to wear what they think makes them look “cool”.
Thank you for your partnership.
Prayer and Praise
BCC Prayer Warriors
We are privileged to be able to run a monthly prayer morning. It’s a treat to pray for new families, students and staff, share some coffee and cake and enjoy great conversation. Everyone is welcome to join us on the first Monday of each month from 8:45am – 9:30am to pray alongside parents and local churches. Come for a bit, or come for the whole time.
Please sign-in at the College Office. We meet near the Weathershed in the College Garden. Simply follow the signs.
For more information or to ask for personal prayer, please email prayerwarriors@bcc.nsw.edu.au.
Check out the prayer focus areas and upcoming dates in the image below.
Prayer Points:
- College Vision and Mission: Pray that the College remains steadfast in its vision to nurture and train young people to grow up into Christ. Ask God to empower the staff and community to embody Ephesians 4:15, growing in maturity and reflecting Christ’s love in all they do.
- Secondary Parent-Teacher Interviews: Pray for ongoing parent-teacher interviews. Ask that these meetings be productive and encouraging for both parents and teachers, and that they foster a collaborative environment for the students’ growth.
- HSC Students Preparing for Trials: Pray for the HSC students as they prepare for their trial exams from Monday, 19 August to Wednesday, 28 August. Ask God to help them use the time leading up to the exams productively, fully engaging in their learning and preparation. Pray that they have the confidence to ask questions when needed and that each student has someone in their life to provide the emotional support necessary in these final months of school.
Prayer for HSC Students
It’s that time of year again when we ask people to volunteer to pray for the 2024 HSC students. Our goal is for each HSC student to have at least one person from the College community committing to pray for them each day from the beginning of Term 3 until when the HSC exams finish on 8 November. We are asking people to commit to praying for two specific HSC students, the names of whom we will provide to you.
Why start specific prayer in Term 3? Well, in Term 3 the HSC gets more real for the students as they have their HSC Trials in August, Major Works (Art and D&T) are due towards the end of August, and Drama and Music performances, along with Language Oral Exams in September. The HSC Exams start on 14 October.
As part of our wider community focus, we also ask that you please pray for the HSC students at Belmont High School. It can be a challenging time for so many young people.
If you are interested in committing to praying for two of our HSC students, please contact us via prayerwarriors@bcc.nsw.edu.au

Primary Show – ‘Light’
Coming soon!
We are excited to invite families to our upcoming Primary Show, “Light,” on Thursday, 12 September, during Week 7 of Term 3! This year, instead of a traditional musical, our students from Years 3 to 6 will be performing various acts that explore the theme of ‘Light,’ such as “Light of the World” and “My burden is light.”
The event will be held in The Hall, where each year group will present their item, and many students have also prepared individual and small group performances. The enthusiasm and talent displayed by our students have been remarkable, and their hard work has truly embodied the spirit of our theme.
We are incredibly proud of their dedication and creativity and look forward to celebrating their achievements with you. Thank you for your ongoing support and encouragement.

Sport News
BCC AFL Grand Final
We ended Term 2 on a high with 2 sensational games capping off the Primary sport season – both games going down to the wire!
The Girls game was an all Liddell affair with the Liddell Bobcats taking on the Liddell Bulls. Although the Bulls had more opportunities, it was the Bobcats, led by AFL representative player and player of the match, Molly Mawson, who kicked an important goal and led her side to a 2.1.13 – 1.3.9 victory.
The Boys game was one for the ages, with the Barbarians side leading all game only to have the game taken away in the dying seconds by the 2023 defending champion Booth Ravens. Ravens captain and player of the match, Noah Barry, was instrumental in getting his side back into the match, but it was Year 4 student Barlen Arendts who would steal the show. The crowd erupted as Barlen gathered the ball from a ball up skirmish and kicked the match winning goal under pressure, with just 30 seconds left on the clock.
Booth Ravens 3.2.20 defeated The Barbarians 2.2.14 to be the first team to go back to back since the Cuthbert Cubs of 2017/18
Primary All Schools Cross Country
The best of the best in NSW lined up for the NSW All Schools Cross Country carnival, held during our school holidays.
Skye Porter finished in a brilliant 21st position from 75 competitors in the 10yr Girls event, in a Personal Best time of 8.34 over the 2km. Skye finished with a silver medal with NSW CIS coming 2nd in the Teams competition.
Jade Reeves finished 7th in the Primary Multiclass. Jade demonstrated her growth and tenacity by competing in the event after being informed on the morning that she wouldn’t have an aide with her on the challenging and hilly course. In the end, she was able to take on the challenge solo and conquered more than just the course itself.
Well done girls!
